"LANGUAGE LOVE"
"Why are books so very powerful? What do the books we've read over our lives - our own personal libraries - make of us? What does the unraveling of our tradition of public libraries, so hard-won but now in jeopardy, say about us? This is about what we do with books and what they do with us: how they travel with us; how they shock us, and more."
Ali Smith - 'Public Library and Other Stories'

We are Noor Remmen and Emily Stevenhagen, artists based in Den Haag and founders of Bad Penny Publications. From the 17th of July until the 18th of August we have been in-house residents at Centrale Bibliotheek Den Haag.

During these weeks we’ve been working in and from the Library to create our publication around the theme: Language Love. With the ever-evolving role of libraries in society, between research centers, and more and more towards community centers, a home away from home, and a place of help and understanding, this publication will explore the topics of ‘common’ language, difficulties in comprehending and the possible beauty that lies in resulting misunderstandings.

The publication was created together with the library's public, through the form of writing workshops that focus on the nuances of language and the possibilities that lie in being lost in translation.
